..:: Revamping Investment for Regenerating Nature
A combined Multistakeholder Forum, workshop, and luncheon, Revamping Investment for Nature Regeneration,
took place on January 18, 2023, at Morosani Post Hotel, Davos, Switzerland, as a side-event to the annual World Economic Forum.
Prepared by several partner organisations, and the arrangements serviced by IKED, the event centered on
the disconnect observed in today’s world between the spike in pledges for funding in support of sustainable
development, and the meagre resource flow that actually connects with the ground, resulting in any real impact.
Not least apparent in regard to the enormous advance of financial and corporate assets that have becomes subjected
to-called ESG (Environment-Society-Governance) investment, the problems are not primarily associated with finance itself.
Key issues have to be addressed in regard to process, including the identification and implementation of projects as well as
the verification and validation of outcomes.
Altogether, some 60+ representatives of finance, industry, international organisations, governments, NGOs, academic institutions,
and also networks of entrepreneurs and social initiatives, came together for the occasion. The set-up featured structured group
discussions responding to key questions, e.g., on the source of the issues at stake, what variation can be observed across
technologies or sectors, the role of governance, and ways forward. This was followed by project pitches, of concrete initiatives
from around the world, where local action has been taken and valuable results already been achieved by countering under-investment in nature.
These pitches illustrated the wealth of untapped opportunities for scaling and replication that are at hand, given the enactment
of constructive cross-border collaboration engaging diverse competences and stakeholders.
The Multistakeholder Forum initiated in Davos on January 2023, represents the reinvigorating event for the subsequent enactment
of a process to take the identified issues, challenges and opportunities forward. It will thus be built on in follow-up activities
that pull together practically oriented work on the mechanisms shaping green investment combined with piloting, testing, evaluation
and finetuning of their functionality, as applied to real world projects in a process set to generate lessons of more general
applicability in the shape of a novel, revamped framework for green investment in the years ahead.
