..:: The Future of Water and Humanity

In cooperation with local and international sponsors and partners, IKED engages in "The Future of Water and Humanity", a multi-stakeholder initiative that serves to highlight new solutions and realise untapped opportunities to address grave challenges confronting us all in regard to the management of the world's water resources.

Warer & Humanity adopts a holistic approach to water - the most precious resource of our world. Humans used to excel in managing water. Now, water is severely mismanaged - the world's water cycles are out of balance, the oceans, the rivers, the lakes, the earths ground water, all are becoming contaminated and losing life. Water and earth. Water and air. All go to together - we have ways forward to turn the tides, invest, innovate and implement solutions at hand.

The Water & Humanity launch and initial expert workshops took place on Nov. 13-15, 2019, primarily at the National Museum of the Sultanate of Oman. Follow-up activities including a new round of expert meetings were held on February 3-6, 2020, and then various on-line activities took place during 2020.

Water and Humanity proceeded with various project activities through the subsequent year. At the same time, plans for a larger International Conference had to be re-made more than once, due to the continued hurdles posed by the ongoing pandemic. Eventually, it took place on October 17-20, 2022. On that occasion, Water & Humanity joined forces with the Global Forum, a major international IT conference which had previously been held annually during 28t years.

While the Global Forum had thus far been hosted by many capitals and other colourful and innovative cities in Europe, North America and elsewhere, the 29th edition - the Muscat conference - represented the first occasion that the Global Forum met outside the OECD, and notably in the Middle East.. Co-organised with Water & Humanity, the theme of this major event was coined: “The Global Forum: Technology, Sustainability, and Humanity”
