..:: Women´s Incubator and Training Center (WITC) in Saudi Arabia
Saudi ArabiaIKED has, jointly with its partners in the IIE consortium (IKED; Intentac* and EUROCONSULTANTS DTM**), submitted a proposal to initiate the development of a Business Incubator supporting Women’s entrepreneurship (WITC) in Saudi Arabia. As a basis for the incubator, a special concept is to be developed of supportive services and capacity development.

The partners bring on board a set of complementary core competencies to fulfil the project in an optimal way and to assist in designing the Business Incubator and providing the fundamental training and capacity development which is needed for its success.

The consortium behind the project has a multi-year and multi-faceted experience in the development of innovation and entrepreneurship strategies and policies, as well as in guiding the operation of Science and Technology Parks and Business Incubators. It can mobilize a number of experts with special skills how to train the staff of incubators, and foster local professional competencies needed to enhance the transfer and commercialization of technology, as well as in how to work with the public sector to develop new infrastructures and concepts for the promotion and enhancement of regional and national innovation and entrepreneurship. While it brings in competencies from all parts of the world, it has a solid platform and experience within the GCC region.

During the past years, incubators have been recognized as organizations providing an attractive framework for the support to SMEs and the promotion of entrepreneurship. They are viewed as a remedy for the disadvantages that SMEs encounter due to lack of knowledge and other inputs, by providing numerous business support services, and as a mechanism for new venture creation, entrepreneurship and regional development. Many countries have thus increasingly been engaged in establishing incubators.

Several countries, in the Islamic world and elsewhere, have also paid special attention to the issues that arise with regard to women’s entrepreneurship and how incubators can be designed to address the specific needs and support environment called for by new women entrepreneurs.
