..:: OECD Workshop in Istanbul
[December 11-12, 2006 - Istanbul, Turkey]
Following the workshop “Building Awareness of Women's Entrepreneurship in the MENA Countries” which took place in July 11-12, 2005, in Istanbul, Turkey, another meeting of the OECD Taskforce on Women Entrepreneurship prepared for the implementation of two pilot programmes. This 2nd workshop brought together relevant stakeholders from the MENA region as well as from OECD-member and other economies to examine how the pilot programmes can serve to inject new constructive forms of mentorship and network building, so as to further expand the potential of women's entrepreneurship as a driver for economic growth and social inclusion in the MENA region. Together with the other members of the taskforce group, IKED was represented in the event which took place December 11-12, 2006, in Istanbul, Turkey.

..:: ICT and empowerment at ASEM Ministerial Meeting
[November 30 - December 1, 2006 - Hanoi, Vietnam]
ICT Ministers from Asia and Europe met in Ha Noi November 30th to December 1st to agree on new forms of collaboration to strengthen human resources in order to capture the benefits of the emerging information society. The discussion focused on how governments can collaborate more effectively to improve ICT policy, but also how experiences can be shared and action be engineered through co-operation with the private sector and other actors, including NGOs. On the business side, Ericsson and Alcatel were amongst the European interests present. IKED and the Global Trust Centre (GTC) attained an important role advancing collaboration in areas of work centering on digital transactions, money transfers, security issues and personal integrity.

..:: INNOCATE start-up workshop
[November 15, 2006 - Lugano, Switzerland]
Representatives of the partner organizations in the consortium to review the indicator systems of the Nordic economies, in which IKED plays an active role, met to advance the agenda of this 2-year research project. The meeting was arranged back-to-back with the International conference on Indicators on Science, Technology and Innovation - History and New Perspectives, organised by the European Network of Excellence on Policies for Research and Innovation in Europe (PRIME), at the University of Lugano, Switzerland.

..:: UN’s CSTD panel on inclusive information society
[November 6-8, 2006 - Paris, France]
IKED’s representative on the panel, organised by the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) at UNESCO headquarters, spoke on the need to build a people-centred, development-oriented and inclusive information society with a view to enhancing digital opportunities for all people; in Paris, France.

APEC and OECD countries discussed and advanced their collaboration on SME development and globalization, in Athens in November 2006. IKED participated as a representative of independent organizations.

..:: ASEM Senior ICT Officials Meeting
[June 8-9, 2006 - Hanoi, Vietnam]
The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) organized a preparatory expert meeting in Halong City outside Hanoi in June, which paved the way for ASEM’s November 2006 Ministerial meeting to advance collaboration in respect to expanding ICT implementation. (See above).

..:: Ethiopia Triple Helix Conference
[May 29-31, 2006 - Addis Ababa, Ethiopia]
This conference assembled international speakers from several countries on different continents. Ethiopia’s President, H.E. Girma Welde Giorgis, underscored its importance to the country by his presence and key opening address. The Swedish Ambassador, Staffan Tillander was also among numerous other prominent participants to speak at the opening session. Representatives of the Ethiopian government, universities and private sector attended the debates to launch a programme for increasing government-university-business cooperation and, ultimately, improving conditions for enterprise development and the betterment of the country’s economy and society. IKED acted as co-organizer of the event, hosted by the Ethiopian Triple Helix Association at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa.

IKED prepared the proceedings from the conference, published in November 2006, in collaboration with Professor Henry Etzkowitz and the Ethiopian Triple Helix Association.

..:: INSME’s 2006 Annual Meeting held in South America
[April 24-26, 2006 - Montevideo, Uruguay]
Following the successful initial meetings organised with IKED in Malmö and Helsingborg (February 2004) and the first Annual Meeting in Barcelona (April 13-14, 2005), the INSME Association held its 2006 Annual Meeting in Montevideo, Uruguay, on April 24-26. The main theme of this event was "Boosting Innovation by Bridging the Knowledge Gap: a Developer-User Approach".

The INSME Association currently includes over 70 Members from all continents, including 20 Governmental Bodies, 8 International Organisations, 8 International NGOs and representatives of 36 networks and intermediaries acting in the field of innovation and technology transfer to SMEs, and has strong links to ÌKED.

The meeting in Montevideo was hosted and co-organised by the Centre for Technology Management, of the Chamber of Industries of Uruguay (CEGETEC).

[March 27–30, 2006 - Brasilia, Brazil]
Representatives from the 30 OECD countries as well as from about 80 non-OECD member states around the world, together with delegates from a large number of international organisations, met in Brasilia in March 2006 to agree on ways forward to strengthening financing for SMEs. The conference was a follow-up to the OECD Ministerial on SMEs in Istanbul in June 2004, in which IKED participated with active contributions. IKED representatives were again engaged to discuss some of those issues which will be most decisive for the continued development of SMEs worldwide.

This year’s Lerchendal Conference assembled representatives of Norwegian industry, researchers and policy makers to address the key issues outlined by the Norwegian authorities in respect to knowledge-creation and -use in the globalising economy. Norway has numerous challenges but also considerable resources on which to build dependable strategies to ensure the future continued success of the Norwegian economy.

IKED participated with its presentation ”China vs. Europe – A Matter of Knowledge?” (“Kina mot Europa? - Et spørsmål om kunnskap?”).

The Lerchendal conferences are organized by Tekna (the Norwegian Society of Chartered Technical and Scientific Professionals) in conjunction with NTNU (the Norwegian University of Science and Technology), SINTEF (the Foundation for Scientific and Industrial Research at the Norwegian Institute of Technology) and the Research Council of Norway.
