The work of Women Business Leaders in the MENA region, within the MENA-OECD region and with IKED participation, developed recommendations in four key areas of action to promote women entrepreneurship and to establish a regional forum. The recommendations were taken up at the November 27 meeting of the group, and in the subsequent ministerial meeting organised under the auspices of H.E. Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, First Lady of Egypt.

[November 18-20, 2007 - Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates]
This forum, organized by the United Arab Emirates Business Women Council under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, highlights the woman as an effective partner in economy development. The different sessions focused on enhancing the capabilities of women and facilitating the process of building partnerships around the world. IKED contributed with a presentation on the perspectives of women entrepreneurship and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises.

At the "Conférence Internationale sur la Formation en Technologies de l'Information et de la Communication: Défis et Opportunités", organized by ICDL-Algérie and sponsored by the Algerian government, IKED’s president made a keynote presentation on "People, Innovation and ICT", and held bilateral meetings with Algerian ministers and public officials.

..:: Swedish and Finnish experiences exposed to Latin American countries
[September 11-14, 2007 - Sevilla, Spain]
ECLAC, the United Nations/Naciones Unidas Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, organized a workshop and a conference involving teams of researchers, analysts and policymakers from selected countries around the world. The purpose was to gain lessons of practical importance for Latin American countries as they attempt to become more effective in designing and implementing policies that are relevant to their specific situation. The IKED team, responsible for contributing the experiences of Sweden and Finland, focused on public-private partnership and the strengths and weaknesses of individual programmes.

..:: Brainstorming on a Key Issue: “SMEs in the Knowledge-Based Economy”
[July 11, 2007 - Amsterdam, Netherlands]
The Prime Minister of Malaysia has set up a number of task forces to prepare for concrete action in specific areas of priority to advance the “Knowledge-Based Economy Agenda”. The programme, which incorporates the groundwork of search for new approaches by eight task forces, attains the very highest priority to Malaysia. Senior representatives of BinaFikur and Multimedia Corporation met with IKED officials in Amsterdam to gather intelligence on what could and should be done. The IKED team emphasized the importance of creating conditions that can account for diversity and depth in funding and competence upgrading for SMEs, without causing conflicting interests and unhealthy territorial disputes by rivalling authorities and policy domains.
